Aricha is situated in the Yirgacheffe district, within the Gedeo zone of the ‘Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples’ (SNNP) region of Ethiopia. Over many years, this region has cultivated a distinguished reputation for producing exceptionally fine coffees, offering some of the most sought-after and exclusive microlots found anywhere in the world. The unique combination of high altitude—reaching up to 2,200 meters in certain areas—fertile and nutrient-rich soil, consistent and abundant rainfall throughout the year, along with a wealth of local knowledge passed down through generations, all play vital roles in establishing the esteemed status of Yirgacheffe coffees. Additionally, the indigenous ‘heirloom’ varietals, which grow wild across Ethiopia, are largely responsible for the distinctive and complex flavour notes that create an unusual yet refined and highly prized cup.
